Avoiding wasted talent
Avoiding wasted talent.

In Chemical Engineering, we work very hard at “material management” -- if we pay for raw materials, we aim not to lose a single molecule to waste, if we might sell it as a more valuable output. We also practice “energy management” -- if we buy energy, which might also be in the form of high energy molecules (e.g., hydrogen or sulfur), we aim not to lose a single BTU of energy.
We must aim to work hard at “talent management”. If we hire a person, they likely bring skills beyond what we hired them for. Let’s employ those skills! The employee is happier, and the company gains additional skills! Last week I wrote about a book called “The Inside Gig”. It provides a path for talent management.
