Focus can be measured.
Steve Jobs understood that focus means more than saying “Yes” to things. More importantly perhaps, it means how frequently you say “No!” to the 1000 good or interesting things that distract you from the best things. Maybe YOU have lots of good and interesting things, and are struggling to let some go. Focus can be measured by a statistic called “Entropy”, or even more simply by your frequency of saying NO. If you have high Entropy, that means that you feel like you have many options that you can work on. And of course, sometimes you have to play a little bit until you discover the thing you just cannot say No to. But once you find it, FOCUS! Move toward low Entropy by saying NO to many opportunities, even good ones.
