6 dimensions to consider for innovative ideas.

How do we generate new ideas for customers? Usually, innovations do not start de novo. They extend something that already exists along new dimensions. Here are some dimensions to consider for new ideas. These invite everyone into the innovation conversation:

  1. value. Does the offering address new “Jobs to be Done” (Tony Ulwick, Clayton Christenson)? Does it hit new emotions?

  2. accessibility. Have you reduced frictions to purchase? Made warranties and returns easy? Made procurement and disposal easy?

  3. service. Is getting a repair, return, or checkup easy? Or can repairs be reduced by better design?

  4. packaging. Is it safe, attractive, and with little waste and easy to open?

  5. timeliness. Can it be delivered quickly or at a given time? Is the transaction time fast? Is the offering durable?

  6. payment. Is the price consistent with the benefits offered? Can the offering be bundled? Added to a subscription?

By considering your offering along all these dimensions, you might find a niche where you have a competitive advantage, which adds value for your customers.
